Contribution of Muthuramalinga Thevar to the Indian National Movement with Special Reference to Tamilnadu

Abstract:
Muthuramalinga Thevar was born in village called Pasumpon in Ramnad District in 1909. He was the only
son of Ukkirapandi Thevar and Indiraniammal. His family was very rich and his mother died before his first birth
day. He was brought up by his maternal grandmother Parvathiammal. During his youth he was guided by
Kuzhanthaisami Pillai. Pillai arranged for his schools in 1917 run by American Missionaries in Kamuthi and then
he joined Pasumalai High School. Then he continued his education in the Union Christian High School in Madurai.
But Thevar was not able to continue his studies due to the spread of Plague epidemic.
