Dynamic Load Aware Routing for Multi-hop Wireless Networks

M.Naveena and M.Joseph Auxilius Jude

Abstract:

A Multi-Hop Wireless Network (MHWN) is a special breed of wireless communication networks, where the sender and receiver are connected through the number of intermediate wireless nodes without pre existing infrastructure. Based on the nature of the application Multihop Wireless Networks are categorized as Multi-Hop Mesh Networks, Multi-Hop Cognitive Radio Networks, iMANET and VANET, each of them designed for specific applications. These categories of MHWN can govern themselves, so they are often called as Self organized Networks. Due to the introduction of internet architecture in these Multihop network through a fixed / mobile internet gateway increases very high probability of bursty traffic that will lead to network congestion in heavily tailed Multi-Hop architecture. To counter the heavy traffic in Multi-Hop networks, several traffic engineering /Load balanced routing solution has been proposed. The Load balancing algorithm distributes the traffic in multiple paths which improves the network performance that can minimize traffic congestion. This paper gives a clear insight into the behavioral concept of the routing protocol and its analysis. Micro level behavioral analysis was made with the existing standard routing algorithm such as AODV, DSDV and DLAR under two different patterns namely scalability and diverse traffic condition. The results were analyzed based on the metrics such as average throughput, average end-to-end delay, total dropped packets, packet delivery ratio and normalized routing load. This work forms a base work for developing a new load centric routing (LCR) for bursty traffic and uneven split ratio.
