Analysis and Mitigation Strategy of Grid Fault in Current Source Converter based Offshore Wind Farm
R. Rajathy and Thasnimol C. M.
Abstract:
An interconnection scheme for the current source converter (CSC) based offshore wind farm is presented in this paper. By cascading the CSCs on both generator and grid side, it is possible to eliminate the offshore converter station and step up transformer. Generator and grid side converter control schemes are discussed with the help of intensive simulations performed by MATLAB/Simpower system toolbox. A fault ride through scheme for CSC based wind farm is discussed. The ability of the CSC to operate effectively under the the zero switching state is used to form the fault ride through scheme. Simulation results are provided for verifying the FRT scheme for symmetrical, double line to ground and single line to ground faults.
