Abstract:
Long-Term Evolution (LTE) is a standard for wireless communication of high-speed data for mobile phones and data terminals. The antenna designed for LTE should have smaller size and better efficiency. The microstrip antenna is selected since it has low profile, narrow bandwidth, high efficiency and compact size. The design of microstrip antenna which is used in LTE with the operating frequency of 3.3 GHz is discussed. The antenna is printed using FR-4 Epoxy substrate material with dielectric constant of Ɛr =4.4 and having thickness of h = 1.6 mm. The inset feed technique is used. In this paper, the microstrip patch antenna with inset feed and E-shaped inset feed patch antenna are analyzed in terms of gain, return loss, VSWR, and radiation pattern. E-Shaped patch is preferred because it is less vulnerable to interference when formed as an array in multiple antenna system. The analysis proved that the proposed E-shaped patch antenna has better return loss, VSWR value, front-to-back ratio and efficiency compared to the normal inset feed microstrip patch antenna. The structures are designed, optimized and simulated by using the software tool ANSOFT HFSS V14.0.
